Wildfires close one of two roads into the Florida Keys, be sure to add time to your commute.

Driving in or out of the Florida Keys today? Coming down to look at Key West homes for sale? Beware of potential traffic. Card Sound Road is closed off due to wildfires. Card Sound Road is one of only two roads going in and out of the Keys. Allow extra time so you can see all the houses we planned to see or if you have a flight to catch.

Officials closed Card Sound Road, one of two major roads leading in and out of the Florida Keys, early Thursday morning because of wildfires.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office released an alert around 1 a.m. stating that the fires were near the three-way intersection at Card Sound Road and County Road 905, which leads to Key Largo.

The road reopened around 4 a.m. after firefighters brought the blaze under control, according to the sheriff’s office.

Most traffic flowing in and out of the Keys happens on the 18 Mile Stretch of U.S. 1, but some drivers take Card Sound Road and County Road 905. That route also leads to the exclusive gated community of Ocean Reef.

Card Sound Road begins and ends at the mainland in Florida City. Be sure to plan enough travel time to allow enough time to look at each of the Florida Keys homes for sale that meet your needs.
